Turf and Landscape Attendant

Job Description

Essential Functions

General

  • Monitor designated areas of the Sportsplex to ensure safety and well-being during participation
  • Follow established work zone rotations to accomplish assigned tasks throughout the Sportsplex and IM Fields
  • Clean Sportsplex equipment to provide a safe area
  • Act as a first responder for health and weather related emergencies
  • Complete cleaning and inventory duties as delegated by supervisor
  • Maintain all turf and landscape areas as directed by supervisor
  • Maintain all turf and landscape equipment as directed by Supervisor
  • Ensure Sportsplex and IM Fields ready for use, check for safety of playing venues and equipment readiness; prepare as necessary
  • Ensure all equipment is safe and secured at the end of the night
  • Coordinate emergency and evacuation procedures that include care for injured, start of emergency action plan, and the notification of appropriate university and community authorities.
  • Perform routine field care and assist setup of intramural and sport club fields
  • Be ready to work and prepare to setup for external events
  • Work with Campus Recreation Competitive Sports Staff, Intramural Staff and Events Staff to setup and takedown for assigned events and program offerings.
  • Must to able to work flexible hours including early mornings, evenings, weekdays and weekends.

  • Greet participants warmly and enthusiastically to create and maintain an atmosphere that cultivates long-term participation

General Schedule

This position will be scheduled to work 3-4 hour shifts Monday – Thursday 5:15am – 12:15am, Fridays 5:15am – 9:15 pm, Saturdays 9:45am – 9:15pm, and Sundays 11:45am – 10:15pm.  This position is available Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters with hours available during semester and holiday breaks.  A minimum of 9 hours per week is required, with a maximum of 15 hours.  Must to able to work flexible hours including early mornings, evenings, weekdays and weekends.

Job Requirements

  • Currently enrolled student of Auburn University
  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0
  • Must obtain and maintain a current CPR/First Aid/AED certification.
  • Possess some customer service experience
  • Must be able to pass mandatory driver training and safety training

Physical Requirements

  • Position requires working outdoors (95%) and indoors (5%)
  • Be able to lift and move up to 45 pounds
  • Operate vacuums and other cleaning equipment
  • Set up events with equipment such as but not limited to tables and chairs, sport equipment such as volleyball poles, goals, tents and stanchions.
  • Be able to operate landscape and turf equipment such as; utility vehicles, mowers, trimmers, blowers, small hand tools and weed eaters.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous Recreation experience
  • Strong experience in customer service
  • Capable of working outside during extreme weather (hot and cold temperatures)
  • Turf grass maintenance experience
  • Experience operating mowers and landscape equipment
