“Healthy is the New Skinny” is her platform

Last Updated 6 Year(s) ago

Congratulations to Auburn graduate student Meg McGuffin for winning the title of Miss Alabama 2015 on June 6. She received her undergraduate degree in media studies from Auburn in May and served as a Camp War Eagle counselor, entertainment director for Eagle Eye TV and president of Auburn University Body Image Education and Eating Disorders Awareness (AUBIE-EDA).

McGuffin currently serves as a graduate assistant for the Office of First Year Experience. For now she will travel across the state spreading her platform, “Healthy is the New Skinny,” and raising money for Miss Alabama’s charity, Children’s Miracle Network. McGuffin will represent the state of Alabama at the Miss America pageant in September in Atlantic City.

Campus Recreation Registered Dietitian Jessica-Lauren Newby serves as advisor for AUBIE-EDA. Graduate Assistant Registered Dietitian Annie Penrose assists with outreach, and the Nutrition Team provides support.

“I am thrilled the president of a student organization Campus Recreation sponsors is Miss Alabama,” said Newby. “We wish Meg the best in her important mission to create awareness of eating disorders.”
