Auburn Outdoors: The Newest Offering from Campus Recreation
Last Updated 6 Year(s) ago
Auburn Outdoors is a new program on campus that has already been established as a central hub (pun intended) for cyclists!
Yes, Auburn Outdoors (AO) has ample tents, sleeping bags, stoves, canoes, kayaks, stand-up paddle boards, and bicycles to rent for you next adventure...
Yes, students can go climbing, paddling, cycling, and hiking across the United States, with all equipment, instruction, backcountry meals, and transportation included in registration fee...
But the uniqueness of AO is the community of outdoor enthusiasts who gather on the first floor of the new Recreation and Wellness Center just to hang out and discuss and plan where we are paddling this weekend, sip coffee, or to work on refurbishing old equipment for new uses. We map out our summer road trip, and one of the hightlights is... we offer a place to work on bicycles.
Students and active members of theRecreation and Wellness Center can bring their bicycle in, set it on one of the bike stands, and use our tools to get the bike riding smoothly again. We sell small consumable items such as chain links, tubes, brake cables and housings. We offer free bicycle maintenance clinics including: how to clean a drive train, how to change a tube, how to adjust derailleurs and brakes, and safe riding practices.
Everyone can join the “community.” Everyone is welcome. You should bring your bicycle in, have a cup of coffee, listen to some good music, and get a little bike grease on your pants.
The benefits are that you get to meet like-minded people, enjoy a free cup of coffee, and learn a bit more about bike maintenance. Come on in. What are you waiting for?
